color class of 2024 parents and students in high school I am looking forward to having an awesome working relationship with you of the next four years mrs. Nelson teacher in the science department at current to teach AP biology and science research to freshman students physiology I am also the coordinates of the Gateway honest program and I was just like to spend a few minutes Rihanna's program is an academic program so it is scared to provide students with a rigorous background rigorous course students are accepted with a grade of 80% sword average rate of 80% the students to 85 the reason for this is that a t is not competitive we are preparing her students eventually for college and have to face facts 85 is lot more competitive and even students to strive for much higher in this way they will be prepared for programs that they want to be involved free sample there's a program run by downstate College call the Arthur Ashe Institute program requires students to have an 85 average in science students apply for this program in the freshman year and then they start the actual program in their sophomore year and go to the senior year no problems like this are very competitive and see just need two men pictures of the Gateway program include the fact that our students move together as a cohorts throughout the four years so they do all their core classes together so they will be together their math English and so on their other classes they will probably be spread around so you will be in what seasons were not Gateway students before your core classes you move before years as much as your cohort was to form very strong relationships for students are very good at helping each other through their tough course work we do have programs together as a group so we have for example something that's very very popular or Thanksgiving or holiday potluck which all grades are involved in four students placed in an advisory so each group is an advisory we have guest speakers guidance counselors come in and talk I need advice race we talked about things like soft skills development work-related skills we talked about study techniques and so on in addition or students are involved in educational trips to go to the DNA Learning Center where they would do a DNA fingerprinting activity students are expected to take part in internships stop this for years this is a requirement of the Gateway program so you do have to get involved in special programs and internships outside of car Barton we do provide some assistance so as I hear about programs cuz I get programs and opportunities I post it is a student's responsibility to pay attention to follow up and to get involved in addition Mentor or young students program provides review books Etc just the wrap up the program is a very gross program students are expected to maintain a grade of 85 or higher in addition they are expected to take AP classes started in the sophomore year at least some symptoms I want to start in the freshman year that possibility but we do start in sophomore year with AP Computer Science and students are expected to do I'm starting per year are there for years again welcome to Clara Barton High School if there is anybody who is not yet enrolled in the Gateway program and you are interested please feel free to reach out email is Nelson 12 schools.
