Toronto shooting Toronto hey and I think you all know Missy or not everyone good morning everybody I miss Escobar was also known as Miss 11th grade assisting students advisor I'm at the school so welcome everybody to RDA showcase okay I'm going to go and start presenting my screen now okay okay alright you all can see my screen it right yes Dental Assisting showcase this major was for your 11th and 12th grade year as you all know and during the Showcase we're going to go over what a dental assistant is what's expected of you in this major what you would leave this program with with your career opportunities are after Clara Barton who is who this program is for and we'll hear from some of our current students on their experiences how it's affected their life when is start with just showing a YouTube video that just kind of introduces the profession here we go one type of dental assistant every office has different each dental assistant may have different responsibilities and duties some offices may have only one assistant some may have multiple chairside assistant the may have specific dental hygiene assistant and some even have a designated sterilization assistant who may have responsibilities both up front and keep everything running smoothly so for the purpose this video I will show you how my day in the life was as a dental assistant while work chair size at a private practice with one practicing dentist office where the dentist dental assistant business manager all the treatment plans for the patients on the schedule once everything is organized and we are all on the same page if we didn't already the night before we start making Grace for each patient that's coming in today for example say the first patient is a feeling we'll put all the instruments for a filling on the tray if the second patient is getting a root canal I will also call with everything the doctor will need for the fiction we all pitch in to help each other out so all the assistance together we all start turning everything on and setting every ultrasonic for taking the instruments out of the autoclave from the night before in filling up all the way we get the room ready for the first patient after the patient has signed all the treatment plans and consent forms at the reception desk we will bring the patient back and seat House history ask if there's any changes in your medications and then we will take the next the doctor will come in for the procedure doctor will not the patient with syringe that the assistant has prepared save this first patient is in fact having a filling done the dental assistant will suction anticipate what the dentist needs next for each part of the procedure so after working with the same dentist over and over it becomes a super smooth process of passing interest back and forth it's called four-handed dentistry for a reason once you figure out which instruments your dentist prefers in the order they prefer to use them in you both start working seamlessly with each other all about anticipation and once the first appointment is complete sometimes the dentist will have the assistant take a post-op X-ray and then we'll come back in and make sure everything we will walk the patient up to the front so say the next patient is here and ready we're going to do all the steps again but this time of course with a different patient and a different procedure and set up tray depending on the day sometimes we have an office assistant who helps clean the room but whoever it is we need to make sure that we start getting the room ready so we need to take everything out and set it back up as well as going to sterilization and make sure all the instruments are put through the ultrasonic and then into the autoclave I'm offices to help keep everything running smoothly and reduce waiting time the patient work out of two rooms for example if the dentist is finishing up with one patient the dental assistant can take an x-ray in the other room with another case of course is great create lots of running around for the dental assistant but as most of you probably know all this running around makes the day go by super fast once the day is over we clean everything we might get I'm ready for the first patient tomorrow and we empty all the water lines and clean out the other duties of a clinical chair getting ready to ship out to the list sterilization maintenance such as replacing the cold let everything that acted as a really great overview to what Dental Assisting is and what the role of the dental assistant actually you're there to support the dentist support the office you learn about all these procedures and set up send it repeating what comes next when you working with the dentist the dental assistant is involved with infection control and sterilization maintaining equipment all of these components is what we really focus on during your 11th and 12th grade so what is that dental assistant who is that dental assistant it's the person who is usually first when you see in the office they're taking x-rays they're comforting patients there involves impeaching Education Works very mostly with the dentist and the dental team some things that might be expected for you in this program not mentioned to me that you were just what we're looking for you will be expected to maintain a 75 of Veteran all your courses also enrolled in an English or gym class in order to stay in the DEA program we would expect you to maintain a 75 or better in all your courses outside of d as well be open to constructive feedback this is a your learning skills that stand on its it is studying from a book and and lessons and material but it's also learning how to pick things up and use them the right way so Missy and myself and talked to OSHA have spent well over 10 Dental fields we have that experience to share with you and provide feedback and show you how to do things the right way so being open to that feedback from your teachers is what's going to help you get the most out of this program Havoline to maintain professionalism medical time this includes how you look how you talk your body language and just really maximising all that in the dental setting communication is Old Folsom key and then something else said I don't know if you all are aware of but we do have a rotation that we do at Woodhull Hospital you'll be leaving Clara Barton successful on our exit exam June and that you passed the radiation health and safety exam you would be eligible to graduate as a certified dental assistant some career opportunities with someone with that certification you can work in schools hospitals. settings all different Dental practices educating others become a Central Dental sales rep I'm going to take this time to tell you guys have dental assisting impacted me I was a dental assistant in high school and throughout college and it actually changed the trajectory of my life after being an assistant at orthodontist for many years I was told about the profession of dental hygiene and how you know maybe that's something I would consider went on to become hygienist went on for a bachelor's or Master's I begin teaching dental hygiene at City Tech College in Farmingdale State College for about 6 years which I love that professional so just be medicine in high school had an impact on me to further my education and I never thought I'd get a masters I definitely thought I'd get a doctorate but it just really impacted my life and where I was just so you know this is a high school decision for you don't you and your wife when you leave here just want to chat with you because if not for dental assisting I wouldn't be where I am today sounds corny but it's true so who's the program for someone with strong immune patient skills who enjoys working with their hands you know not everyone wants the job with a sitting behind a desk all day and somebody who wants a career with responsibility or 11th grade students are awesome Hazard a 12th grade and this is just a video that they made that just kind of Recaps their year their first year in the Solar System Program so we're fortunate enough to have very small classes and because of that we really become really tight-knit pretty much to call my family almost immediately we go on trips we have fun and this video does a great job of showing that someone to share this with you moments later okay so thank you 11th graders to making that for us that was awesome yes it's a program and it is work but as you can see we're still having fun we're going on trips to where it always find an opportunity to celebrate each other and our successes and we're really making the best of our education in our time at Barton some students have come back to visit us and tell us about their successes who did Gone on to become many of them have gone into Dentistry as a dentist or dental hygienist we've had students that have gone on in 2 hours do you spell therapy physical therapy and so many other Healthcare professions so even though you might not come out of this thing yes I love dentistry and I want to do this forever just two years in this program really gives you bad Foundation to set yourself on a in the healthcare field you going to learn a lot of the terminology of being in those professional settings and interacting and communicating with professional people any profession that you go into really it's going to demand all of these aspects so even if you don't end up in dentistry you're really going to gain a lot of being a professional just from being in his program I believe I only have okay I have both of my senior girls here with me I'm going to ask Anissa she's here just to say hello and I know it's on mute herself hello everybody this is one of my students in my class and we really how can I say something about your experience or expectation in being a PA program how it's impacted you if you'd like to share with us please okay so I'm going to start from my I'm doing here Grandma I would like a game I like it and then after awhile Miss Escobar has started pushing me more than going to the clinic and I just like seeing stuff I like to see all cases come and get it checked out and I started liking it more and more and more and then the senior team is he here Misty came and I was nervous to go into the hospital because my that's a different environment this is a patient's real life patients but different different different places you know I went to what I was scared like I didn't know like and I've grown people watching me like I'm so young and they're older people there so I'm scared but fixing Mist TV all the cameras. And when we started working with the other ecosystems and the and the dentist has responded monomer how to get somebody with everything and actually went smooth not going to lie all those quarantine happen but it went really smooth you guys did great at Woodhall you jumped in and even though you guys are high school students and much longer than the dental assistants are my students were teaching the dental assistant that were there you know my first extraction I was playing Los Angeles Angel and Miss Miller talks a lot and oral surgery extraction out there and then after I started level on Sergey that's my favorite Department always says my favorite love to go with all the lights helped him the dentist clean and everything set up everything and put in a syringe explain so you learn to love it thank you and Nesta Sonia so I just want to start off by saying that you know. starting engineer in this program it was very wrong because I was like I was unsure whether to do it or not but now you know that I am going to college to pursue my career as a oral surgeon that just goes to show that I really do love what I do junior year for me was not the best because my test scores and stuff was a little rocky but and effort I was kind of bored cuz you weren't doing anything Hands-On but then like Anissa said we got in the clinic and I was like I really do love this like everything about it and Senior year we went to Woodhall and that's what made me really fall in love with the dental field because I just left for Sunday like I don't know what it is it's fun to see so many different things and I don't have a weak stomach so it doesn't bother me and I just have to stay positive with the program if you'll be in this program your main thing is to just stay strong and don't give up because nobody has anything from there and even like at one more we will also teaching each other at the end of the day so it was just a funny vine need to be in and I love what I do and I do miss it a lot because it was fun and to be there with all my classmates that and I'll dad's and my teacher it was just a good experience and that's something that everybody should get to text friends honestly I could buy thank you Sonia I'm so proud of you that you persevered and you didn't get the sergeant if I can't imagine this year so thank you for staying and as you just heard she just her being in this program and seeing what she saw and experiencing what she experienced in the program in at Woodhull she's now going into New Buffalo at pursuing Dentistry so did she even think she was going to make it through to me yeah maybe not but now look where how it's impacted her life so that's great story Saint you think you're amazing all right song let it don't know the song even little quiz right now so you're up first I just want to show off my students and their skills and what they know and how do you speak actually and they're able to you know maintain their composure in any situation so anesthesia what's something used in dentistry that would help to prevent Cherry first what's Carrie's carries Nike Kyrie's is the Kate cavities basically the one that was invented to half an hour cuz you want it cuz you want the floor to work so you don't want to immediately bring some it was if you do it will immediately actually everything good job all right with something else what we do in the office to prevent cavities coconut fluoride what else can we do in the dental clinic to prevent cavities Amrita Demarcus Lawrence mainly children get sealants because when they eat a lot of things they don't really know how to have proper oral hygiene give me know how to brush your teeth and everything but they don't know how to brush your teeth properly so then you know causes food to get stuck in the pit and fissure is which is like the grooves in like contact cases of your teeth and then just causes you to get cavities cuz the toothbrushes unable to reach those spaces and then the food gets stuck there and build so there's a pediatric patient with your children patients because this just gives them an extra barrier protection of protection against Kerry you see this. these topics we went over back in like October so they were constantly reviewing and reinforcing while using it every day so what I want you to walk away from your going to become so committed to our students we're so available semi feel like within the first week of school is already a group chat and you know we immediately form a bond and become a family and we want the best for you in and out of this program and we are really teaches that are so committed to you guys I want to see you guys be the best you that you could be so we can help you and Clara Barton and in this program we would love to so I hope you considered as a major I would love to have you and work with you and can't wait to hear about what you going to do outside of bar so thank you on behalf of DEA myself Missy and student daylight daylight what seniors and juniors jump in and strong so thank you guys for joining their thank you for the great so a day as a dental assistant student junior year it was fun because you know Miss Miss Escobar Escape is candy when she was really good so I was really looking forward to you know going to that class cuz I know he's going to get some candy but when we when we wig come to class and you always have lecture mommy had missed as to whether that teaches you need air and electrical base something happened to Sonya so I'm going to ask Miss Sinister to pick it up I need to get to clarify the candy dip if a junior it was like this everyone that had Jim so I make it so Missy class on time so you know it was a regular show me the regular like skunk world flashlight Missy will always have lecture and I was always the one to go on the board and have everything set up for Missy gas me all the time lecture chapters all the time and always me and you know after that you said we have like trivia questions like we get involved with what we're learning about very much are balls and see about workout challenge challenging very very talented cuz I'm am not a morning person but had to  it up had to get up early I have to get up every morning at 4:30 house look it up coming to Willow I was like wow she likes everyone I wake up go on the bus little one-horse when I get there go out locker room sketch and eat breakfast and then go right at the clinic login very sorry to change the water is the word hour dental morning routine doing the water is changing changing water is making sure that everyone has a lot of making sure everybody has instruments and all that and I've never go upstairs sign is coming down and then you go right into the room to start working did you like it in this place would you have preferred being a Clara Barton the whole time did you feel like you got more head being in the hospital setting did you learn more than I'm not going to lie to you I love with all I like being at work all day I say that is because I called Bart Brooklyn roasting split and sometimes has has two it's like all the different experience extraction root canals you got all different types of people on there and it just different other patients with other patients and even the best things to do while you're actually is that doesn't need to learn Spanish in Creole because over there is a lot of presents to people so I'll recommend you to learn Spanish MP interacted with them but other than that what all this makes previous like a lot of stuff even the dentist is help you learn. You know assistance also help you learn so everybody is all together learning something all together different Taylor Barton some different but Barton was like what was experienced but what hardest different you cancel go out you got to learn more and you're always teaching and learning from each other mission of asking question I think is quickly quickly goes away I was to be honest but I have to overcome that don't be afraid Don't Be Afraid don't like don't try this like as presents somebody will be there to help you like I had to ask questions to fall so sometimes I didn't want to do it if I had to do it to learn for myself and to understand thank you can't be afraid to jump in the fryer you know cuz that's that's the way that you're going to show initiative to your teacher the doctor just around you is just being a Tuesday okay where's my house when you did I may not know how to do it but I'm going to ask you how bad I want to learn so I'm going to do it yeah myself make sure you don't get burn nope we have to do it like that's the strange thing about the whole group cuz nobody likes you guys have to do it so occasionally will be like okay I do it we just all come to a consensus as a group with our friend take excess was because my body has a different mouth everybody a different I had to pay for the for the had a bad gag reflex we had some called another assistant to come and help us like we had another patient like trying to help the patient Spike relax old that's the reason why I was booking ResCare about it but honestly lady overcoming I'm telling you what people like that now that people buy these are people like that really like or not like that's what I was going through my mind that this is not High School this is people like real paying customers that are pending money so I really need help so I just always have to keep that in the back of my mind and cuz you're going to see a lot of things that were a lot that you may feel comfortable with that you just have to put on a brave face what is the boys did take us there when we were juniors Alyssa what's the late ones that once or twice light observed 15 years if you walk in there like intimidated still or like you felt confident in your skills and what you were doing there cuz I know I'm going to put that shoe show how much do you have from day one being intimidated and you know so comfortable working among us to march with you knowing your stuff working so I want to say better than their DEA so competent and confident and I'm so proud of you writers or 12th grade students already in this meeting offensive questions now you could even put it in the chat if you don't feel like it Victory Honda senior teacher these eleventh grade teacher if you know any questions unfortunately I pretty much stopped because I was happening with cloven but if you can share your experiences coming in in the program Oso when I first got into the major I was so excited I was like I'm going to leave in a little situation because I actually like the major like I I I was interested in dentistry for a while so the maid was perfect for me but I just have to say it's not it's not hard like it's not impossible but it is a lot of work you will have to put a lot of effort into it and like I mean it's nice like I had to just you know that I couldn't talk to anyone I had to do it to myself yeah but that's really it's and it's not impossible but you just have to learn to be responsible and then manage your time properly yeah that's a lot of it thank you. how about you Jennifer hey guys so I experienced before and then there was like explaining about the majors okay Mom I took the test failed but I was like okay that's what I was so excited lately we was when I was scrubs and every I'm so excited and I wasn't there cuz you know Missy Kane a sweet person she's ready got a picture to the Year by Skies like the major you have to put an effort and you have to have time management and if you're very determined you'll get it done but if you just got a free I'm not going to do that you're going to have a difficult time but you know how to manage your time you'll get for like the sophomores in the Freshman on things like I didn't know things that I do not find out when I joined the major so like what does a dental assistant do like mr. on to win over at but like you insisting that that's a procedures like feeling the crowns extraction you taking hormones like you do Impressions I can make you basically you create tiny little fix any malformations in the mouth you prepare them for oral surgery or you just better than general cleaning and you might Capri equipment like the x-rays just like all this and you said it and you talk to patient and set up appointment so you can what I believe that a lot of sophomores and freshmen don't know is that we're not only in the clinic we're working to be front desk we can be in the clinic we have circulated when you do both but it's a really flexible and kind of like yeah so you can perform administrative ties with. combination clean up after the procedures and sterilize the equipment in the autoclave which is like pressure and heat to clean the instruments so these are some common questions that you know people have to do a major when I let me do that the whole so people love to ask if it's hard and I told him it's not impossible but it is a lot of work and it really does demand a lot of you and you might have to you know cut off all of your things that aren't really as important to be able to do it but I mean people that do before me I'm doing it the seniors are doing and it's not impossible if you can do it yourself and people like are the majors to be a major saying like blank major does it have summer school why am I going to go to this page if I was going to have to have summer school at first I really hate it summer school because I really enjoy you know I couldn't do anything you know after summer school cuz it was really in the middle of my day but at the end of the day I really like summer school and always has it was it was difficult to do summer school because you know it's a lot of words you know and I was small amount of time but it was worth it over all because if you do join this major nor any major at all you do get money you have the chance to make money after you leave high school and then College expenses are no really expensive so you can have to figure out how to pay that and the major is awake so people who first thought I wasn't so I was like how am I going to do a major and my sister could do this but I mean I'm still here the singers are still here people there before and I I mean I could do it again but it takes awhile you don't go in to the dental assistant major perfect at everything like I for one I didn't know where to find how the instruments are supposed to put on and I just had to make a routine for and how to do it and I mean you can feel free to feel free to ask any more questions if you have any like for example I wanted to say that the major Choice should up to you and your parents because a lot of people that I know kind of Joy Majors with their friends but they're not happy in the major but they wanted to be with her friends and then now they're your friends are having fun and you're not unlike you should really needed you what you want to do rather than what your friends want to do or anybody else's opinion and if you want to be one major and your parents aren't you being another at least try to convince them or like tell them what you want over what they want you might not be happier in the major issues and it might not end up well for you if you don't use it you truly want and I think that such a thing as a major because you get to get to work from people who were technically Like A step above you like for example I am learning from be like you just you're surrounded around people who are Advanced Taqueria dentistry in like if you want to join in in like one of those career paths you can just ask them if they hang up how do I do that and then I find that great yeah I like you didn't even become a teacher like some people don't want to do Dentistry at all I didn't want to do the physical things I like even if you don't like me do you want us but that's really all I have for this thank you so much Calissa I'm just going to answer a question regarding the dental clinic I want to think that I do want to say is that burns High School dental assisting program is one of a kind it is only program in the state of New York which means that our program goes above and beyond and meet the requirements of the adult program so if you do decide to join us a program you're getting the same program that's offered Dental Assisting cetera so this is hotness TJ are dental assisting clinic in scuba stand assisting Clinic is the only Clinic also New York are 11th graders get their basics in the clinic so that's where they learn the fundamentals of Dental Assisting and then I will call it go ahead and learn more.
