At Clara Barton High School for Health Professions, we are committed to preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals. Our Medical Assistant Certificate Program is accredited by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), ensuring students receive high-quality, industry-recognized training.

A Pathway to a Rewarding Career in Healthcare

Medical assisting is one of the fastest-growing and most in-demand career fields. Our program offers students a strong foundation in clinical and administrative healthcare skills. It provides hands-on training led by experienced healthcare professionals, equipping students with the knowledge and expertise needed to excel in various medical settings.

What Does a Medical Assistant Do?

Medical Assistants (MAs) are multiskilled professionals crucial in in-patient care and healthcare administration. They ensure that medical offices, clinics, and hospitals run smoothly while supporting doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

As an MA, you will be the first and last person a patient interacts with during their visit, impacting their healthcare experience. You’ll work directly with patients, help with medical procedures, and assist in keeping healthcare facilities organized and efficient.

As a medical assistant, students will develop skills in:

Patient Care & Clinical Procedures

  • Measuring and recording vital signs
  • Assisting healthcare providers with exams and medical procedures
  • Administering injections and medications
  • Performing EKGs, phlebotomy, and laboratory testing

Medical Office & Administrative Support

  • Checking patients in and out
  • Answering phone calls and scheduling appointments
  • Updating and managing electronic health records (EHR)

Why Are Medical Assistants Important?

MAs bridge patients and healthcare providers, ensuring quality care and a smooth patient experience. Their ability to work in both clinical and administrative roles makes them one of the most valuable team members in any healthcare setting.

With this in-demand skill set, medical assistants have many career paths to explore, whether working in primary care, specialty practices, hospitals, or urgent care centers. The diverse training provided at Clara Barton High School for Health Professions ensures that students graduate ready to succeed in this fast-growing field.
