We are accepting applications for the September 2023 incoming Health Career Majors class from March 7th through April 28th

 

Each Health Career Program at Clara Barton is approved by the New York State Education Department with the same standards as other professional programs in colleges and universities. The programs are Dental Assistant, Vision Technology, Dental Lab Technology, Nurse Assistant and Medical Assistant. In addition to your high school academic subjects, you must complete a 22-month rigorous course of study before you are eligible to receive the program's certificate and take an industry approved certification exam.  This includes your participation in the summer school upon your acceptance, Summer 2023 and Summer 2024 (Mandatory for a Dental Assistant major and highly recommended for the other majors).

 

            The Health Career Department is facilitating multiple informational events this month for you and your parents. The Health Career application is due this Friday April 28th .

There are several IMPORTANT events taking place this month:
 
Event #1--HC Showcasing presentations in 10th Grade English Classes
Dates: March 16th 
Rooms/Periods: 10th Grade English Classes
Description: Facilitated by Health Career teachers and students. Information will be presented about each major including interactive activities with manikins and blood pressure cuffs.
 
Event #2--Health Careers Informational Booth
Dates: March 21st and 23rd 
Location: Cafeteria
Time/Periods: Periods 4-8
Description: Facilitated by Health Career teachers and students; trivia games, informational flyers and other interactive activities.
 
Event #3--Clara  Barton School Fair *PARENTS are WELCOME!
Date: March 29th
Location: Big Gym
Time: 5 pm to 7 pm
Description: Each Health Career program will showcase their major. It will also include an overview of the entire school and allow visitors to participate in science/math/humanities hands-on activities.

Since each program is challenging and demanding, we encourage you to discuss the program’s commitments with your parents and guidance counselor before you begin the admission process.

The Health Careers admission committee will begin reviewing the applications and transcripts in late April. You must be on target to graduate with the class to be eligible for any Health Career program. You also must have a grade of 75% or above in Health Core 1, 2 and CFM courses. Students who meet the academic criteria must participate in the interview and pass all Spring 2023 courses. ***You must participate in the Summer 2023 school to make up failed courses (three is the maximum number of courses allowed to take in the summer).

We are accepting applications for the September incoming Practical Nursing class from February 16th through March 3rd 

The Clara Barton High School Practical Nursing Program is approved by the New York State Education Department with the same standards as other professional programs in colleges and universities.  In addition to your high school academic subjects, you will complete a 22-month rigorous course of study before you are eligible to take the New York State License Practical Nurse Exam and receive your Practical Nursing certificate. This includes your participation in summer school classes upon your acceptance, Summer 2023 and Summer 2024.

 

 

A completed application including two letters of recommendation from your Health Core teacher and an external source must be submitted on or before March 3, 2023 by the student applicant.

 

Please email your Health Core teacher to request a recommendation form to be completed and cc Ms. Khavina at [email protected] so she can follow up on your request. All Health Career teachers will be provided with an online recommendation form access.  An external source recommendation letter can be submitted to Ms. Khavina via email or dropped off in room 263.

 

The Practical Nursing admission committee will begin reviewing the applications and transcripts in March.  Students must have at least a 75% cumulative average and be on target to graduate with their class to be eligible for this program. You also must have a grade of 75% or above in Health Core 1, 2 and CFM courses. Students who meet the academic criteria must take a Pre-entrance Exam, Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), that will be administered on April 24th. The TEAS informational session is scheduled for March 10th and a meet link will be emailed to the applicants who meet the academic requirements and receive a Dean's office clearance.
