Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
I hope that everyone is well and enjoying the remaining weeks of the summer. As you are aware, schools are scheduled to reopen on Thursday September 10, 2020. As previously communicated, the health and safety of students, staff and families are our highest priority when planning for a school reopening.
We are using a cohort based approach whereby students rotate between in person and remote learning or remain entirely remote. Families will be able to opt out of in-person instruction and choose remote learning fulltime. There will be defined time periods for parents to opt back in to in-person instruction. We are respecting social distancing and complying with all recommended Department of Health and sanitary protocols while teaching in our building. Classes should average 9-10 students.
Our students will be divided into the following cohorts:
Cohort A: Student Last Name A-G
Cohort B: Student Last Name H-N
Cohort C: Student Last Name O-Z
Cohort D: Fully Remote (Students do not report for in-person classes at Clara Barton High School).
We will be following Model 3B whereby students report to school on two consecutive days and remain remote for four days for our Fall 2020 Hybrid Remote Model. The model demonstrates a 6 week cycle. After completion of Week 6, the schedule returns to Week 1 and repeats a second six week cycle.
While reviewing the published samples keep in mind that there will be days off during the school week in observance of Federal and Religious Holidays.
We will continually send out phone messages, e-blasts and letters home to ensure that there are no mistakes on the day your son/daughter reports to school during the fall 2020 semester.
Please send me an email at RForman@schools.nyc.gov regarding any questions or concerns you may have. I will be returning to Clara Barton High School on August 31, 2020. My office phone number is 718-636-4900 Extension: 2031/2032.
Parents and Guardians are our most valuable partners. While we navigate into unchartered territory together, I am confident that our professional teachers and concerned families will work in tandem to ensure the academic success of our children.
Very truly yours,
Dr. Richard A. Forman
